According to Google, they place limits on users sending email messages to keep their credibility, system health and safety.

Google also states that sending limits changes over time without prior notice and is based on 24 hours rolling period.

Step by step process on how to setup gmail smtp
In order to set up your Gmail SMTP you need to do a couple of things such as turning on two-step authentication and creating an app password in your Google account.
STEP 1:
How to turn on two step authentication in your google account
Make sure you already have google account if not Click here —How to create a gmail account without phone number verification
- Visit Google.com or open your chrome browser and Sign in into your Google Account.

2. Click on your Account Logo

3. Click on ‘Manage Your Google Account’.

4. Click on ‘Security’

5. Scroll down to locate ‘Two-step verification’ and click on it

6. Scroll down and Click on ‘Get Started’

Note: You need to verify with your account password
7. Scroll and click on ‘Continue’.

8. Select your Country. Type in your phone number in the space provided and click ‘Send’

Note: You can verify your phone number either through text message or phone call, in my case I chose ‘text message’.

9. A six digit PIN code will be sent to your phone number, enter it in the space provided and click ‘Send’

10. Click on ‘Turn on’ to turn on the two-step verification.

Two-step verification is successfully turned ON.

STEP 2:
How to create an app password in your google account
Navigate to ‘Manage your Google Account’
- Click on ‘App passwords’

Note: Verify with your google account’s password
2. Click on ‘Select app’ and select ‘Other (custom name)’

3. Enter a name for your app password (Choose any name you want). In my case I entered ‘Gmail SMTP‘

4. Click on ‘Generate’

A window will pop up on your screen with your app password as seen in Image 17

STEP 3:
Your Gmail SMTP Details

Change the Gmail SMTP username to your Gmail address and change the password to your App password as seen in Image 19

How to test your Gmail SMTP
1. Visit smtper.net
2. Fill in the form;
(i) SMTP host: Enter Gmail’s SMTP server address (smtp.gmail.com)
(ii) Port: Enter 587 (TLS – Transport Layer Security)
Note: Why TLS (Transport Layer Security) but not SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)? TLS is an advanced version of SSL.
(iii) Check secure connection
(iv) Check Authentication
(v) Login: Enter your Gmail address
(vi) Password: Enter your newly created app password
(vii) Email from: Enter the email address you want to send the test email from (It should be your Gmail address)
(viii) Email to: Enter the email you are going to receive the test email with (You can use any email)

If you get this message, ‘Mail successfully’, then congratulations, go to your inbox and check.
